Parker is 3 days old!

Wanted to post a 3 day old photo of Parker - he sure is a cute little fella! Henry said mom, dad and baby are doing well. I believe they're still at LPCH through tomorrow. Lots of nurses checking in on Lisa and baby. All is good and Parker seems very healthy.

I'm sure Lisa/Henry could use any home cooked meals or restaurant delivery should you want to drop something by their house after this weekend. Lisa is allergic to shellfish, cantaloupe, bananas(?), so check w/Henry or Sheridan. Thanks everyone for your support!

So sorry, no more visitors today

All is well; just mom and baby are really pooped (and poopy - you can figure out which applies to each). Thanks so much to everyone; so great seeing everyone and having you meet Parker. Check with Henry tomorrow!

Good Morning Parker!

Curt and I arrived at the hospital this morning around 9:40 am to find Parker, Henry & Lisa all awake. Henry stayed the night at the hospital on the oh-so-comfortable cot they supply for the dads (joke). Good thing Henry is used to surviving on so little sleep as it wasn't so much Parker that kept them awake as it was the hospital staff who kept coming in every 3 hours to bring the baby to mom. I remember being in the hospital it's hard to sleep because you hear all these strange noises - beeping IV's, people hacking, babies crying, nurses gabbing, etc. It ain't the Four Seasons I'll tell you that much!

Parker is ADORABLE! So far his disposition seems quite mellow. Of course he cried when he was startled yesterday by my camera flash (bad Auntie Helen) but other than that he seems to cry like a normal healthy baby would and overall he seems very comfy cozy all swaddled up. Lisa still cannot eat solid food and that may take some time.

Henry is sporadically checking email so if you intend to visit in the next few days please email him in ADVANCE as they are pretty strict on the # of visitors allowed. I'm so sad we have to fly back today as I want to babysit the little man but we'll be back in a few weeks to get our fill of him.

We are outside the nursery watching Parker from the glass that divides us. He is a good looking baby and so worth the wait! He got his first bath and they're just cleaning him up. He has great color and the nurse (who I swear was there 7 years ago) is instructing Henry on what to do. Lisa will probably be here for 4 - 5 days. Inside the O.R.

Henry is texting me and I'm expanding on the details as any good little technologically-savvy sister would do for her big brother. Lisa is numbed up and got her spinal. There are 7 people in the OR consisting of docs, nurses, anesthesiologist, Christina Yang, etc. Whoops - did I say that? Just joking. The docs are scrubbed up and the incision is about to occur. Henry will not see the incision he assures me. The barrier is up. Baby soon...

Sheridan just arrived! She came bearing gifts of a-may-zing cookies from Specialty's. While we nosh on macadamia nut, chocolate chip cookies, etc. Lisa is now going on 15 hours without food although she's getting all her nutrients vs saline drip and other tasty IV's. We look like a serious CNN press team here on the 2nd floor. Call me Lisa Ling and Curt is Maury Povich. Or I guess that makes me Connie Chung. Always wanted to be her...

Critique of the LPCH Cafeteria Food by HSK

While we are waiting for something to happen (they tell me that Lisa is next but they're just waiting for the last patient to get out of the room) we will write a very Henry-esque post on the cafeteria food here at LPCH. As you all know, Henry loves food. He is one to critique the food choices, textures, and variety of foods presented whether at Caffé Macs or Denny's. Well, at LPCH I was surprised by the variety offered. I opted for sushi and seaweed salad while Henry went for the Grilled Philly Cheesesteak sandwich. My husband opted for the enchiladas complete with refried beans and rice - a healthy choice - NOT!

The grille was the fastest Henry had seen. Completed with sautéed onions and peppers it was a feast fit for a dad-to-be. Other choices included pre-packaged salads, sandwich bar, salad bar (looked a little sparse), hot entree (mexican) and your typical granola bars, yogurt parfaits, and the like. When asked if Henry was nervous he replied, "not really but my stomach has felt a little tight since yesterday".

Latest update - the doctor just stopped by and they're just waiting on the anesthesiologist to come by so that Lisa gets the right medication prior to going in. She will be awake for the procedure.

Waiting for Sheridan to arrive with treats from Specialtys where she works - yum.

Okay - still here. Sorry. Lisa's surgery was delayed AGAIN. But all is good. Baby is head down and Henry is all scrubbed in. Very exciting! Dr. Aziz is Lisa's doctor and will personally do the c-section. Sheridan is on her way over and in our little alcove waiting area we have Linda, Curt, Helen, Bob & Jessie.

Delayed until 1 pm

11:33 AM

Due to another patient emergency, Lisa's c-section has been postponed until 1 pm. The way it works in hospitals is the patient with the more life threatening situation (not that this other patient is life threatened for all I know) gets priority. We are moving all the bags, etc. into her room and will grab a bite to eat and come back in just a bit. More soon. Please don't text Henry or I, check the blog! That is what it's for :-). Prepping for Surgery

11:15 am - So Lisa and Henry are in the preparatory phase before the scheduled surgery. Lisa's feet have been swollen due to pregnancy and the warm temperatures. Plus when you are pregnant you're swollen a lot to begin with - the good news...new shoes for when she's not pregnant! (your feet stretch your shoes out so many women have to buy all new shoes for post-pregnancy :-)

They're putting compression socks on Lisa. She should save those for her next marathon. Compression socks are the best for eliminating any pooling of blood in your legs and pumps re-oxygenated blood throughout your body. They're the latest craze - maybe she can get hot pink compression socks :-).

The fetal heart monitor is now on and they are trying to insert the IV.

Fashionably late

So the Parker/Kim clan arrived at 10:43 am with the papparazi waiting. Renee, Curt & Helen's sister-in-law is working in the IV room today at LPCH so I called her and she was part of the welcoming committee for Lisa's arrival. Lisa looked radiant and Henry looked a tad nervous. Regardless they checked in and as they checked her into a room to get prepped she had a contraction. Good thing we are here!

Lisa amazes me. She brought gifts for the doctor and is uber organized. Big Fun Baby even has his own little Lightning McQueen Roller bag for all his gear. Blake will be JEALOUS!

Waiting for Henry & Lisa's arrival

Curt and I are at LPCH waiting for the guests-of-honor to arrive. A beautiful sunny day here in Palo Alto. Parking is very difficult and it does cost to park so keep that in mind if you do come to visit once the "all clear" is given. Must be "peak" season here as there are tons of people here. All visitors must get a badge and must be 150% healthy especially when entering the maternity ward. HSK & LPK are scheduled to arrive at 10:30 am. The waiting game begins...

The delivery is a scheduled c-section on Monday, July 18th, at approximately noon. We are very excited!

The day before Lisa's scheduled C-section

Curt and I arrived into Cupertino around 11:30 am to find the mom-to-be cleaning up the garden. Yes, I can tell the maternal instincts are in full throttle as Lisa was trimming trees, rose bushes and the like outside like it was any other day. Obviously this is a woman who likes to get things done! Lisa seemed to be in great spirits and I can tell that "nesting" is in full force at the Nest (Henry & Lisa's place). Just a few days ago they finished up their big project of moving the washer and dryer upstairs in order for the future loads of laundry to be done closer to where all the bedrooms are located. Where the washer/dryer used to be on the first floor I found a cute little downstairs nursery for the "little monkey" as Lisa has been calling the baby. Complete with a sink close by the bedroom nursery has lot of storage and is conveniently close to the kitchen and Henry & Lisa's home office. Convenient for Henry as he does all the late night and early morning feedings being the nocturnal one that he is!

Bob and Jessie have been here this week just in case the baby decided to arrive early. This will be their 8th grandchild and my parent's 4th. Tonight we all went out to dinner in downtown Sunnyvale where we enjoyed mediterranean food at Taverna Bistro. Great food but after eating so much you'd think I was the pregnant one!

After midnight tonight there's no drinking or eating for Lisa. We'll head over to the hospital tomorrow late morning for the 12-noon planned C-section. Please check the earlier post regarding visiting and maybe best to wait until we give you the "all clear" signal from both the hospital staff and the mom and dad.

Leaving for the Bay Area

Helen here aka Zuna. Curt and I are leaving shortly to fly up to the Bay Area to be the official "press" team for Team Big Fun Baby! We're excited. So excited in fact that I found it hard to sleep. The last time I was at LPCH (Lucile Packard Children's Hospital) was for Kyan's birth (my almost 7 year old). Henry and Lisa were huge support to me so I'm hoping I can do as good a job for them as they did for me.

Send good thoughts and prayers Lisa's way as she gets ready to welcome Big Fun Baby into the world tomorrow!

Henry is Officially on Leave!

Today was Henry's last regular day of work at Apple for 12 weeks. He will do bits and pieces to support his systems, but has plenty of time off to play with the little guy once he gets here (I mean change diapers!). And speaking of getting the little guy here, I had a couple of clusters of contractions today, but each time they stopped. Bummer!

Again we wait to see what tomorrow brings :•)

The Last Check-Up

Today was my final visit to the OB before delivery. Everything is fine. I had a few contractions this evening, but not enough in a row to head to the hospital. Too bad! However, my doctor is on call tomorrow...perhaps she wants to see me a few days early ;•) Otherwise, Monday at noon is our scheduled time slot.

Either way this little guy will be at Lucille Packard next week. Come on by and meet him!

All is Well

My parents arrived last night from Montana, just in case the monkey makes an early appearance. Today was my last NST at Stanford. Everything was fine, and my mom even got a 30 second peek at the little guy via ultrasound. My last check-up is on Thursday afternoon.

A Long Day at Stanford

Tuesday is our regular check-up day, with both a non-stress test (NST) at the hospital and a visit to the OB. Today we also had our car seat inspection scheduled. (The hospital won't let you take your newborn home unless your car seat installation has been inspected) The NST showed some contractions, which became much stronger during the car seat inspection. By the time I got to the OB clinic, they sent me right back to the hospital for more monitoring. The contractions did stop, and they let me come home finally! Long day, but at least I get to sleep in my own bed tonight :•)

As a bonus, my friend Katie and her daughter were at the same hospital for a treatment that takes many hours, so I got to sneak a visit in with them!

Will we make it to the 18th??? Only The Shadow knows...

Happy 4th of July!

We discovered that fireworks are a little too loud, or perhaps too much percussion, for the little guy. He was NOT happy about it, and started kicking wildly. Henry got a pillow from the couch and we covered the monkey's home with it. He settled down and let us watch the rest of the excellent show. I am sure he will like the fireworks more next year!

A Quick update on the Mom-to-Be

Although the headache was not gone this morning, Lisa did not return to
the hospital. She slept and slept, and finally it is down to a mere
annoyance. Yahoo!

Happy 4th of July weekend!!

A Dry Run 6/30/2011

Hi all,

Henry & Lisa had a little dry-run to the hospital tonight. Dr. Aziz sent Lisa off
to be evaluated because she had a terrible headache that lasted all day.
This can be a sign of pre-eclampsia, which the docs are on the lookout for.

Dr. Aziz had my labs rushed through, and they were fine. Lisa's blood pressure
was on the low side, which normally would not be an issue. However,
since it has been on the high side, it represented a drop by almost
half. This can cause a headache, but not necessarily. They tested the
baby, and he was fine and happy and very active. The on-call high risk
OB decided to give me medication to get rid of the headache.

A dose of Vicodin that normally puts Lisa on the floor only took the
edge off the pain. The next step would be a shot of morphine. With
the Vicodin in her system, Lisa said she could most likely sleep so they
agreed to let her go home. If the headache is not gone when she wakes up,
it is back to labor and delivery for more meds.
